Believing For A Spouse
One Thing That Makes a Marriage Work
I thank God every day that I found a wife I can talk to and know, deep in my heart, that she will never betray me.
Confidence is critical.
Covenant is powerful.
If you’re just starting out; believing for a boyfriend or girlfriend, praying for the right spouse, dreaming about your future, hear this one piece of advice above everything else:
No matter how strong the feelings are,
no matter how much you love them,
make sure you can trust them.
Because if you can’t talk openly with the person you’re with, it simply won’t work, no matter how intense the emotions feel in the beginning. You will always need someone you can talk to, someone safe, someone who will never use your heart against you.
Love without trust is a ticking time bomb.
I’ve watched beautiful relationships crumble, not because the love died, but because the trust did. Secrets piled up. Conversations shut down. Walls went up. And once real communication is gone, everything else collapses.
The peace Jesus gives
On the night before He went to the cross, Jesus looked at His friends and said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you” (John 14:27).
That peace is non-negotiable.
It cannot be stolen by circumstance.
It cannot be betrayed by people.
It cannot be shaken by disappointment.
Why? Because it doesn’t come from people in the first place, it comes from a God who will never betray us, never abandon us, never leave us exposed.
We serve a God who will never let us down.
We serve a God who will never let us die spiritually.
We serve the God of perfect peace.
So build your relationships – dating, marriage – on the same foundation: trust and open, honest conversation rooted in covenant love.
Feelings will rise and fall.
Attraction will have its seasons.
But a safe place to talk?
A person who will guard your heart and never weaponize your words?
That’s gold. That’s rare. That’s worth waiting for.
And the good news? The God of peace wants to give you His peace in your relationships. He wants to lead you to (or make you into) the kind of person who can be fully trusted.
So pray for it.
Wait for it.
Believe for it.
Because a marriage where you can talk freely and trust completely is one of the greatest gifts God can ever give you on this side of heaven.
Father, we worship You today, the God who never betrays, the God who fills us with peace that the world can’t touch. Lead us to covenant relationships built on trust, openness, and Your unshakable peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
